06 – “I Can’t” Is WAY Worse Than Any Swear Word

Hey, Mama. This is Mama’s Daily Dose. I’m Meghan Q Barrett of allyoumama.com. Mama’s Daily Dose is… ” ‘I can’t’ is way worse than any swear word.” Let’s get moving, before we get interrupted.

“I can’t.” I can’t stand hearing, “I can’t.” When I tell myself that, if I hear my children say that, if I hear anyone say it, because I know the toll that it takes on people.

Do you know how many people’s futures will never know because they told themselves, “I can’t.” How many innovations will never come to fruition? Because people believed that they couldn’t.

A swear word is is just that it’s  a word. Different people take it differently. But “I can’t,” that gets programmed into your subconscious. The more you keep telling yourself that the more you really believe it, and then you just don’t try because you really believe that you can’t do it.

So I’m all for swear words. But “I can’t…” no. Have a fantastic Monday Mama’s and thank you for listening. Be sure to head on over to Instagram and give me a follow @MeghanQBarrett. That’s Meghan with an H and have a great day free of mama guilt because you deserve it.

05 – You Don’t NEED Wine to Survive Motherhood

Hey Mama and welcome to Mama’s Daily Dose. I’m Meghan Q Barrett of allyoumama.com. Mamas daily dose is… “You don’t NEED wine to survive motherhood.” Let’s get moving before we get interrupted.

Okay, so hear me out before you just turn off this podcast and write me off as an alcohol hater because I’m not, I enjoy a nice glass of wine, sparkling is what I prefer over here. And often it’s more than one glass. But there is a big difference between enjoying some wine and feeling like you deserve that alcohol or you need alcohol to survive motherhood.

It’s almost become this big joke and totally normalized that “mama needs a glass of wine” or, “you really deserve that glass of wine after the tough day that you had… after what you’ve been through.” But what you really deserve is some rest and time to yourself. You deserve to recharge and do something that you enjoy.

I know myself during the pandemic and 2020 during COVID. I wasn’t using alcohol to enjoy it. I was using it to escape. I was living the same day over and over again and I was stressed and I had postpartum anxiety and I just didn’t know how to handle it. So I was using alcohol to escape and not because I enjoyed it. And that wasn’t what I needed. And it wasn’t what I deserved.

What I deserved, was some time to myself and just to do something different to break up my every day monotony. So in the end, go out. Enjoy some alcohol, wine, whatever your drink of choice is; with some friends, with your partner or even by yourself at home in the quiet if that’s what you want to do. But make sure that it’s because you enjoy it. You don’t need wine to survive motherhood. You deserve to take care of yourself in order to thrive in motherhood.

Thank you so much for listening today. And that wraps up our very first week of Mama’s Daily Dose. If you enjoy the podcast, please leave a rating and share with your mama friends. Give me a follow on Instagram @MeghanQBarrett. Have a great day free of mama guilt because you deserve it.

04 – F That. I Can Do Both!

Hey Mama. Welcome to Mama’s daily dose. I am Meghan Q Barrett of allyoumama.com. Mamas daily dose is… “F that I can do both.” Let’s get moving, before we get interrupted.

A couple of years ago, I heard this quote, that went something along the lines of, “I may not change the world, but I can raise children that will.” And I thought, wow, like, that’s pretty powerful. Because you know what, maybe it’s, it’s not my thing, you know, I may not be the person to bring this big change about, but I can raise some kids that really can make a change.

And I just I thought it was this beautiful quote then. And the more I thought about it, I was like, You know what, F that, I can do both. I was just, I was selling myself short. If I can raise children that can change the world. Why can’t I change the world then? Right? Because I’m the one that’s giving them the tools and the beliefs in order to change the world.

So you don’t need to put all of your energy into your kids future, and what you think they’re going to do in the future because you need to put some energy into what you want for your future. I think it’s so crazy that we ask, you know, kids and teens like, Hey, what do you want to be when you grow up? Like, turn around! What do you want to be when you grow up? What do you want to be doing in 10 years?

You know, put that thought and that energy into what you want to do. You make a change and you know what that’s going to do, it’s going to inspire your kids to make a change too.

So you can change the world for better and then your kids they go up and they one up you on that and how totally awesome would that be?

Thank you for listening and if you enjoy the podcast, please please please go on and give me a five star review and share with your mama friends. Also, give me a follow on Instagram @MeghanQBarrett. That is Meghan with an H. And have a great day free of mama guilt because you deserve it.

03 – If Mamas Rules the World

Hey Mama. Welcome to Mama’s daily dose. I’m Meghan Q Barrett of allyoumama.com. Mama’s daily dose is… “If Mama’s ruled the world it would be a much more caring, and efficient place.”
Let’s get moving. Before we get interrupted.

I just want you to imagine for a moment, if moms really ruled the world, I mean, it would really be a much more caring, loving, far more organized, and just straight up efficient world.

I mean, if you need something to get done, just ask a mom. And you know, it will get done. But what happens is, so many moms are being held back by fear, and guilt, and possible judgment, that they’re not giving all that they can to the world.

And we have so much to give. And first and foremost, you do need to give to yourself, and then second, you know, giving to your children and your family. And then that has a ripple effect. Right? And you can go beyond and affect the lives of other people and make the world a better place.

The better you are, and the more successful you are, the more successful your children will be, and your grandchildren, and so on. So, the more we keep raising the bar, the better the world is going to be.

Moms have so much power. I mean, you’re probably the main decision maker in your family, right? Whether you’re a stay at home mom or working mom, whatever kind of mom you are part-time whatever it is, moms hold a lot of the power. So let’s start using that power for good. And see how we can change the world.

Thank you so much for listening. If you enjoyed this podcast, please go ahead and give it a rating as well as share with your mama friends. Hop on Instagram and give me a follow @MeghanQBarrett. And that is Meghan with an H. Have a great day free of mama guilt because you deserve it.

02 – Be Selfish

Hey Mama, welcome to Mama’s daily dose. I am Meghan Q Barrett of allyoumama.com. Mama’s daily doses is… be selfish. Let’s get moving before we get interrupted.

Be selfish. I’m not totally sure when selfish became this horrible word. I actually remember when I was a young kid, and my grandma told me one time that I was being a selfish little bitch. And to be fair, I probably was, maybe those words shouldn’t have been used. But you know what? It made me into the person that I am today.

And I don’t think that being selfish is a bad thing. You need to be able to take care of yourself, so that you can take care of all the other crap in the world. If you give away all of your resources, all of your time, all of your money, all of your energy, then you have nothing else to give. Right?

In order to give to other people, you have to actually have something to give to them. And just because you’re selfish doesn’t mean that you don’t think of other people and that you’re not helping and taking care of other people.

Selfish and selfless, are not mutually exclusive. I actually don’t even think that you can be selfless, unless you are selfish. Because if you gave everything away, then you have nothing left. Right?

Then you have to be selfish to go get something to survive. So you need to take care of yourself first. You need to be selfish. You will be a better person, a better Mama, a better friend, a better whatever you want to be when you start putting yourself first and being selfish. So go out there and do something selfish today.

01 – It’s All You, Mama

Hey Mama. Welcome to Mama’s daily dose. I’m Meghan Q Barrett of allyoumama.com. And this is the very first episode! Mama’s daily dose is your short, practical podcast for mamas of young children.

Mama’s daily dose is… It’s all you, Mama. Let’s get moving before we get interrupted.

All you mama is not only Mama’s daily dose, but the name of my company. And I went with this name for two reasons. And there’s also a really funny story about the “mama” part, but we’ll save that for another podcast. So the first meaning is, is that everything you need is already within you. All of it.

Anything that you want to do, you absolutely can. At this point in time, you may have no flippin idea how you’re going to do it. But you can do it. Everything you need, is within you already.

And the other part means is that it’s all up to you. So ultimately, you are responsible for your life. You’re responsible for your future,

your feelings, your emotions, and how you see yourself in the world. Adulting can be hard, I get it. And it can be a bit daunting, knowing that you have all that responsibility. But it’s also extremely freeing, knowing that if you want to make a change that you can, and you have the power to make that change.

It’s all you Mama.

Thank you so much for tuning in. And make sure you subscribe so you get each episode Monday through Friday and head on over to allyoumama.com you can sign up for the mailing list. Each Thursday, I send out a brief email that has a think do end quote to get you going for the week. So have a great day free of mama guilt because you deserve it.
