Mama, this is one of my personal favorite podcasts. And it is inspired by a TikTok video. And I apologize, but the original link does not work and I can’t find the original video, but you’ll get the gist of it from listening to the podcast as well. In the TikTok video, he brings up a great question to not only ask yourself, but to ask others. When we are moms, especially of young children, we are stuck to our roles. And we’re trying to fit in these boxes, these mom boxes like I’m a stay at home mom, I’m an entrepreneur Mom, I’m a working mom. And then there’s all these details under each of those that you’re supposed to hit. But what happens when you don’t fit in that box, when you don’t feel that way? Or you don’t feel like you have your own identity? Because you are trying to fit in these roles and titles. And Mama’s Daily Dose is… Episode 26 – Who are you for yourself? Let’s get moving before we get interrupted.
So there’s this new video that’s come out it’s gone quite viral on Tik Tok from @the_holistic_mystic and I’ll link it in the show notes as well. But basically, it’s asked the question, “What is that flip of the switch moment that changed your life?” And he goes on to say, you know, he just he wants to be a better person, he wants to be a better employee, a better husband, a better father, a better friend. And his therapist then says to him, “an employee is someone you are for your employer, a husband is someone you are for your wife, a father is someone you are for your son, and a friend is someone you are for a friend, who are you for yourself, who are you outside of those roles?”
And I don’t know about y’all, but that hits deep. For me, I’m a person that always says you don’t need to be everything for everyone, but you need to be something for yourself. But when we go to describe ourselves, you know, it’s like, oh, I’m Anderson and Saxon’s Mom, I’m a wife to Tyler. And these are all roles that I am for other people. And while they are great roles, and they are a part of me, that’s not who I am. So who is Meghan outside of these roles. And at nearly 35 years old, in a couple of weeks, I feel like I’m now just taking those steps to really figure this out of who I am outside of these roles. Because I feel like through life, we are so defined by our roles. You know, you’re a sister, a daughter, a student, a doctor, a marketer, whatever it is that your job title is… a mom, that is the biggest defining one for us with small children. I feel like this year I’m getting into that groove of defining and creating who I am outside of these roles. And that is exactly why I started All You Mama and this podcast, so that I can give what I have to others and have a role that I’ve created for myself. So on this lovely Monday, take a think about who are you for yourself? Who are you outside of all those roles and titles that you hold?
Mama, your action today is to think about who are you for yourself? What are you doing for you not for one of your roles and titles, but for you? What is it that you enjoy? Who is it that you want to be? What is the mark that you want to leave on this world? What is the mark that you want to leave for your kids? Think about that today…it’s a deep one, I know. Tomorrow we have our last replay of the One Year Celebration week and it’s all about how moms can rule the world. I’ll see you tomorrow and have a great day free of mama guilt because you deserve it.
