Hey mama. This is Mama’s Daily Dose, the short, actionable podcast for mamas who want more. I’m Meghan Q Barrett of allyoumama.com. Quote Thursday today, and Mama’s Daily Dose is… a quote from Buddha, “You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserves your love, and affection.” Let’s get moving before we get interrupted
Do you show yourself love and affection? And I’m not just talking about like, the mainstream self care of like, okay, let me meditate a couple minutes, let me go get my nails done. Go to the spa every three months or something? I mean, like, Do you really love and accept yourself… because you deserve it. You deserve your attention, and you deserve your love. And so often as moms, we feel like we’re stretched so thin, like all of our attention, all of our love has gone to our children, to our families to taking care of everyone else. And then we’re left out there in the dust, when it’s really us that we need to take care of in order to fully take care of everyone else.
In the book, “Self Esteem”, I read that parents and especially moms need to give that example of taking care of themselves for their kids and not be so selfless because then it is exemplifying to your kids, that you don’t view yourself as much as a deserving person as other people. And you are just as deserving as your children and you want your kids to grow up knowing that they love themselves and that they deserve their own love and that they shouldn’t come last behind everyone and everything else. So why should you Mama?
Mama your action today is a little bit of a difficult one and I know it is because I’ve tried it and I’m just letting you know that it will be difficult but you’re still going to go do it and I want you to go in front of the mirror. And I want you to tell yourself that you love you and WHY you love you… like some specifics! I love that you are such a caring mom. I love that you help out the neighbors when they need help. I love that you have really pretty hair, whatever it is, give some specifics of why you love yourself and look yourself in the eye as you do it. And have a great day free of mama guilt because you deserve it.
