Hey, Mama, this is Mama’s Daily Dose, the short, actionable podcast for mamas who want more. I’m Meghan Q Barrett of allyoumama.com. One of my favorite days, Quote Thursday, and today’s quote comes from Brendon Bruchard ibn his book, “High Performance Habits, “What we do with what we have tends to be far more important than what we have in the first place.” Let’s get moving. Before we get interrupted.
What are you doing with those gifts that you have? We’ve talked this week about being blessed with gifts and having gifts and just having some of those natural abilities. But if you’re not using them, then the don’t do any good! There’s plenty of people out there sitting on wonderful gifts, and they had all of the promise in the world…and they just didn’t take action on what they already have.
A story I like to exemplify this with is Stephen Curry. His dad was in the NBA, and he wanted to play in the NBA, like his dad. So he had these gifts, you know, he was pretty good at basketball, and he had an NBA player living with him, that could help him. However, he was a lot shorter and smaller than his dad, and he was told all the time, you’re not going to make it in the NBA, you’re not going to make it in college, you’re too small. So what he did is, he looked at his gifts: what he had, and he wasn’t going to be taking it to the house and dunking all the time. What he did have though, was speed and a quickness when he released the ball. Now he’s known for that jump shot where he can basically shoot and he’s already running down the court the other way, before the ball even makes it in the net. Now that was a gift that he had. But he drilled that, he worked it every day for the longest time until it became second nature for him. And if he didn’t work hard on that, if he didn’t take the time, every day, to work on his gifts, it probably wouldn’t have gone anywhere. He wouldn’t be the player that he is today. So it’s more of what you do with what you have than what you have in the first place. Because you could have everything and if you don’t do anything with it, it’s just sitting there collecting dust.
Mama, your action today is to look at that list you made on Monday of those five things that you are really good at, that are your talents, that make you unique. And what’s something that’s sitting there collecting dust? Which of those gifts can you start working hard on and utilizing more? Because it’s more about what you do with it than having it in the first place. And if you are loving this podcast and the actions that you’re getting out of it, please take a moment to leave a rating and review. And have a great day free of mama guilt because you deserve it.
