198 – Damn! Look at the their lawn!

Hey mama. This is Mama’s Daily Dose, the short actionable podcast for mamas who want more. I’m Meghan Q Barrett of You know that saying… “the grass is always greener on the other side?” Well, that’s all about comparing and where you are putting your energy and your attention. Because if you are looking at other’s grass, someone else’s lawn, and not paying attention to yours; that’s where all your energy is going to go – over to their lawn. And you know what? Their lawn is going to start looking a heck of a lot better than your lawn. And Mama’s Daily Dose is… Damn, look at their lawn! Let’s get moving before we get interrupted.

If you live in the suburbs of America, you probably see people out there on the weekends mowing their lawns, some people have the nice beautiful green grass lawns, and others have some lawns filled with weeds. I’m definitely the latter. Here’s the thing about lawns though, we can always look at someone else’s and be like, “damn, this looks so good. Why does mine not look that great?” But we don’t know the whole backstory behind it either. I don’t know how much time and money and energy they’re putting into their lawn. I mean, I know how much I’m putting into my lawn. It’s not a ton. But that might be their thing. That might be what they really focus on. And they put all of their energy into that. And so it looks awesome.

If I am putting my energy into saying, “hey, their lawn looks awesome. I wish my lawn looked like that.” Then that’s where all that energy is going to go – to their lawn. Instead of looking at my lawn and being like, “Hey, how can I make this greener? How can I get rid of all these weeds? What do I need to focus on my lawn in order to make it better?

Mama, your action today is to think about the last time you compared yourself to somebody else. Were you comparing yourself to somebody’s posts on social media? Were you comparing the way your house looked compared to somebody else? What car you drive compared to somebody else? How someone else mothers compared to you? Now think of that situation… and what is it that you like on the other side? And instead of saying like, “hey, they’re so much better at that, or that is so much better…” Take that information and how can you instill that into your lawn? Into you? How can you make your lawn greener, and get rid of all those weeds?

Mama if you are unsure what you even want your lawn to look like? AKA what you want your life to look like…head on over to and take the quiz. “I’m a Mom, What the F*** Do I Want Now?” And start thinking about what it is that you really want. How do you want your lawn to look. Start focusing on your lawn instead of everyone else’s. And have a great day free of mama guilt because you deserve it.
